What is A Soap Dispenser?

For some of you reading this blog, you may be wondering what a soap dispenser is. Soap dispensers allow you to receive a liquefied form of soap that are usually located on or near washbasins. They provide a quick, easy and economical way of washing your hands to rid them of harmful bacteria. Typically, they are activated by a manual pump which is required to be pressed down or a sensor which when hovered over, a set amount of soap is ejected onto the users’ hands.

Why Are Soap Dispensers Superior to Hand Soaps?

Rather than use traditional bars of soap, which can be prone to being messy after multiple uses, liquid soap dispensers allow you to keep your home’s washroom looking slick, smart and stylish. In addition to this, there are many options of soap dispensers to match the aesthetics of your home which will only add to its value. What makes these nifty pieces of technology superior to the common bar of soap is that they make considerably less mess around the hand basins, making the washroom easier to clean. They can also be refilled from bulk hand soap containers and their maximum capacity means that refills don't have to take place very often. Consequently, you are achieving greater efficiency levels when you have a soap dispenser anywhere you deem necessary to install one.

How to Stop Soap Dispensers From Dripping:

With some of the benefits discussed, some of you who have a soap dispenser installed in your home may on some rare occasions have problems with the devices dripping excessively on the floor. This can happen as naturally, the dispenser will be mounted on a wall or sitting on a counter. As a result, soap residue can build up at the spout and drip down on the surface below. This can make the room look the total opposite of why you chose to invest in a soap dispenser in the first place. For example, it can leave small to large puddles of liquid soap on the floor which not only looks messy and poorly maintained, it could in fact be a major safety hazard for those in the surrounding vicinity. For this reason alone it is advised to keep your dispensers well maintained to adhere to safety precautions and cleanliness of your home.

With this in mind, we have come up some of the main causes of soap dispenser dripping and how to overcome them:

Check Your Dispenser’s Manufacturing

First thing to note about soap dispensers is that they come in many different variations so naturally, some designs are going to be more prone to dripping than others. The main thing to notice is that there are two primary types of soap dispensers. The first one draws soap up from a reservoir sitting beneath the pump, which tend to be manual dispensers, and the second design has the reservoir positioned above the pump and are typically automatic.

On the topic of automatic dispensers, it could be worth checking that the sensor is correctly functioning. This is because the sensored area may be obstructed by soap residue. Some soap dispensers are radar-based, which sends a sensor out bursts and waits for the energy to reflect back. When hands and other obstructions are placed near the nozzle, the energy emitted from the sensor will bounce back irregularly which triggers the dispensation of soap. If residue is stuck to the sensor then this can cause excessive dripping and a total waste of soap.

Reservoir Above The Pump

If your dispenser has the soap reservoir positioned above the pump, then you could be experiencing a leakage from a loose valve or seal. The main cultipit for this is if the dispenser has not been installed properly, accidental damage has dislodged some of the wiring or build up of solidified soap residue. To rectify this, open up the device and check to see if there has been any damage or residue. If damage has occurred, you may need to call an engineer however, if there is just solidified soap blocking up the device, simply soak and run through with warm water to dislodge and dissolve the build-up.

Reservoir Below The Pump

If your dispenser has the soap reservoir positioned beneath the pump, it has to be drawn up to the nozzle in order for it to correctly be used. The main reason for soap dripping in this case is when a small amount of soap is left too close to the end of the nozzle and as a result, it slowly falls down. While this does not necessarily leave a catastrophic mess, the leakage can be troublesome as it can solidify. As such, it will require attention to return back to its original state. To solve this problem, you need to take the hose that connects the pump to the reservoir and flush through or soak within hot water. This will clear any blockages so that your soap dispenser can be utilised again.
